Fiona

I have known Fiona since I was a teenager. She was born in my parents' house on February 8th 2005. My parents were breeding Burmillas at the time and Fiona was one of the kittens born from the last litter of Burmillas. In my parents' house Fiona lived with Letho, who moved with me when I moved in with my boyfriend (now husband) and another Burmilla, a male cat called Sonny.

A few years later my parents decided to breed with Egyptian Maus. An Egyptian Mau cat came into the house, who later had a kitten, also a female. That did not go well with Fiona. My parents were faced with a difficult choice - Fiona was already quite old and suffered from some old age ailments - but we then offered to take her in. That was actually an immediate success and we have not regretted our decision to give Fiona a good life in her old age.

She was a sweet but also feisty lady with a strong will. She did not let the other cats mess with her. Yet she also liked a joke every now and then, and still liked to be challenged with a toy. Fiona got along well with almost all cats - if there were 2 cats sleeping together, Fiona was guaranteed to be one of the two. She got along particularly well with our Savannah Noa, and knew how to bring out the calm in him. She also liked to lie with the children.

After much deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to put Fiona to sleep on September 6, 2022. After years of special nutrition and hydration, Fiona had severe kidney failure. At the point where she was in too much pain, we let her go. We still miss her presence - for us, the children and the other cats.
